Ta-da! The official unveiling of the finished project!
Thanks to our committee members, Optimist club volunteers, and everyone from everywhere who contributed their art to this mural! It truly was a community project and we hope it is enjoyed for many years to come!
We had a good turnout for the unveiling despite the unseasonable windy chill. Thanks to Deputy Mayor Dan Sageman for bringing greetings from the Municipality of Lambton Shores. We were honoured to have Joe Alix of the Judith & Norman Alix Foundation present to say a few words. Then it was cake all around! Thanks to everyone who helped us celebrate!

Local Artist Dawn Greco provided the concept and design for the mural.
Close up, the individual tiles can be easily discerned but the brilliance of the design is that from a distance the tiles merge to create an image of might Lake Huron waves, our famous sunset, iconic seagull perch at the beach, and our forested dunes. |
We had excellent coverage of our unveiling in the Exeter - Lakeshore Advance. Click on the image below to go and read it!
Installed successfully and it looks AMAZING!
Thank you to Leon Van Haaren of CVH Quality Construction Ltd. for providing equipment and labour free of charge!
It’s here! We took delivery of the mural - next step installation! The badminton club members were just as excited to see it as us!
Based on a concept created by local artist Dawn Greco, the mural will represent our mighty Lake Huron waves, our famous sunsets, our iconic seagull perch at the beach, and our forested dunes. It will be a mosaic made up of almost 800 individual squares, and we need almost 800 community members to step up and paint a square for us!
The squares are not solid colours, they are small works of art created in the correct colours to fit into the design. The squares are painted on 6"x6" mdf tiles, then photographed and digitally inserted into the overall mosaic. The mural will be digitally created by piecing all of the individual squares together, and will be digitally manipulated to produce the final image, then printed by a sign company for the final installation on the pavilion.

Yes!!!! The first phase of our mural project is complete!
Almost 800 tiles painted by OUR COMMUNITY!
Thank you all for bringing your enthusiasm and creativity to this endeavour.
From the tiniest tot to the most venerable elder everybody’s effort is appreciated.
Be sure to watch this space as we go on to the next phase!
Phase Two!
The finished tiles were first organized and then laid out on the floor in preparation for photographing. We did discover a couple of glitches (i.e. a missing tile here and there) and made a few switches to make the design look better. It's already looking spectacular!
This illustrates some examples of painted squares, the arrows indicate where they might be placed in the mosaic image.
