Summer Camp 2025

Day One

Welcome to Day one of the Optimist Summer Camp 2025!
We have an amazing group of campers this year and started with lots of outside play.
Denise Kunz came to show us some cool rocks and tell us where we can find fossils locally.
She gave everyone some fun rocks to take home too!
After lunch Tania came to Tie dye with us and we had all the fun and made a good big mess.
Thanks to all of the helpers for making this camp come together
More fun and mess on day 2!

Day Two

Day 2 was full of bugs!
We started out with some wonderful games, races and obstacles courses with Rose and Sherri, thanks ladies!
Next we were joined by 2 amazing ladies representing the Pinery with their bug nets and binoculars!
We bought bugs, learned lots, looked for birds and other insects too! This is a kid favorite every year!
After lunch we split into 2 groups.
Group 1 scavenged for materials outside and played with some hot glue guns to design their own insects!
Group 2 was joined by the amazing birdhouse making crew from our own Optimist Club! Thanks to these guys for helping each kid 1 on 1,
build their own bird house!
After a Freezie break we had some outside fun with popsicle stick ninja stars and bottle rockets.
Another amazing day with a great group of kids!

Day Three

Day 3 was another busy one! We played outside while we could and then went upstairs for our first activity. Each kid wrote out the recipe and made their own playdoh today! Perfect timing too, so they could play while it rained.
After lunch we were joined by Ginny and Linda from the Garden Club who spoke with us about the new turtle garden, then showed us the life cycle of a sunflower.  We all planted our own sunflower to take home and watch grow.
Next our Optimist president Lou took over and lead a sewing class and everyone learned how to sew on a button. Thanks Lou! Thanks to Di for the bracelets! Another amazing day!

Day Four

Day 4 was paint day!
We painted name signs, rocks, canvasses, sticks, hands, mustaches...
It was messy, messy, messy, but sooooo much fun!
We took snack breaks, playground breaks, and breaks just to let paint dry..
Denise and Elliott lead us through making some art with chalk pastels to end the day in the pavillion.
Thanks to our amazing helpers again today!

Day Five

A final camp report from our extraordinary Optimist member and camp coordinator Kristy Lyon.
We can't thank her enough for her leadership, energy and patience!

“Day 5 started with a camp favourite, walking to the sand dune! We were met there by Trish Anderson Photography and will share those photos soon...
We came back and joined in on a presentation about animals at
the library, thanks for the invite!
Our wonderful Optimist president Lou-Anne planned a surprise party for the kids and I to celebrate our amazing summer camp times together!
Thanks Lou
Cake and juice are always a hit!
After lunch we had a big backyard party!
We had water guns, a sprinkler and face painting by our very own Optimist face painters!
A little pool and splash pad, water pompoms (like water balloons) and music too!
Later in the afternoon Little Boo's Sweet Shop joined us for some fairy floss and snow cones.
Thank you all for everything.
I have loved being part of this camp and spending a week with your kids!
Thanks to all of the amazing helpers this year, especially Isabella, Sophia, Denise, Sue, Mary Margaret, and Lou-Anne!
Have a wonderful rest of your summer!
Thanks for the memories everyone!
Kristy”
