Congratulations my beautiful Ausable-Port Franks for being a Distinguished Club in 2018/2019!
This took dedication and teamwork and a focus on bringing out more than the best in our children, our community and ourselves. There were 2279 clubs at the end of the year. Only 4% made it to Distinguished status. 4 PERCENT, seriously! That’s like Mensa of the Optimist world. Now to mention that our very own Walter Michielsen has been credited with Distinguished Lt Governor status for the 2018/2019 year as well! This meant that the Clubs in Zone 8 did an outstanding job bringing more Optimism to our area last year. You make me proud APF. Let’s keep it going. With every loss, we must plan for an add. Let’s not ride a rollercoaster of membership. We need quality, dedicated and engaged members to join our already incredibly amazing bunch. See Optimism in everyday life. And look for Optimism in our everyday people. Than ask them to join us. The kids are counting on us to keep it up at the same caliber and in the same direction we’re already going.

From our president Karen Puzara: For Optimists February is significant as the first Thursday of February is recognized internationally by Optimist clubs as Optimist Day. Members are encouraged to wear Optimist attire and speak proudly of Optimism, what it stands for and what as members we do in our community. In a world facing so many challenges we should be proud to belong to a club whose focus is to conduct positive service projects aimed at providing a helping hand to youth and spreading our positive attitude. By believing in young people and empowering them to be the best they can, Optimist volunteers continually make this world a better place to live. Read her full message and get caught up on everything with our February newsletter courtesy of our wonderful secretary Linda Attard:
We are offering two Sundays this month! Our first was January 19th at Kimball Hall in Forest and we will be at the Optimist Centre in Port Franks on the the 26th. Fun family activities from noon until 3:00 p.m. - free admission! Lunch available for purchase until 1:30 p.m.
We offer our sincere condolences to Past President Walt Michielsens and his family on the death of his mother Agnes, another grievous loss less than a month after losing his father.
